My birthday
Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me! Yes, I did have a happy birthday yesterday, thanks for asking.
I checked for wrinkles and grey hairs, and so far there’s nothing to indicate I’m now in my 30s. Whew!
Theresia arrived on Tuesday afternoon and we had a reasonably quiet evening with my Thai beef soup and some red wine.
But yesterday we spent a good 4 or more hours shopping. It was mostly reconnaissance shopping with a view to actual purchasing tomorrow. I did however top up my VERY depleted make-up supply with some new lip gloss, mascara, eye-shadow and nail polish. Hooray! I also bought some (wait for it) LEGWARMERS! So cute. There is so much 80s fashion around this year.
I have a feeling at least half of the rest of my birthday money will be going towards a GORGEOUS pair of ankle boots I saw yesterday, but I haven’t completely decided yet. God how I have missed shopping! Last night we cracked open my bottle of Vixen and ate brie and chips before a beautiful dinner at Kontraste (a little French/Vietnamese fusion restaurant that’s just around the corner), with lots more wine.
I’m a bit tender this morning, but I’m sure today will pale in comparison to what Sunday is bound to be like.
The gift tally so far is:
- An hour facial at Dermalogica and a hot pink iPod Nano from Chris
- Some bronzing pearls and a pink eye shadow from Theresia (she figured I would need the bronzing after a year of winter) and a bottle of German chardonnay
- A fresh water pearl necklace from Misja
- A hair-dryer with a funky straightening device on it from Chris’s mum and step-dad (my old hairdryer is days away from blowing up)
- A huge bunch of flowers from Dad and Jo (they’re taking me duty-free shopping when they get here in June)
- “Better Off Dead” and “One Crazy Summer” (two nostalgic 80s DVDs ) from my brother and Michelle
- The Book of General Ignorance and the Official Final Fantasy XII Guide from Amy and Ness
- $$ from Mum and Ian (to be converted into shoes and jeans most likely)
- More $$ from Natalie and Dean
I think that’s it so far. Nat arrives late tonight, so I’m still going to school before she arrives. And on that note I should REALLY do some homework. Ahh back to reality for one day at least.
Don’t forget to have a look at the photos from last night, and tune in again next week for photos of the cocktail party.
