Musings of an Australian living in Norway

My big news

July 29th, 2007 by Zoë

Many of you will already know that I had some big news this week, but unless the bush telegraph is much more effective than I realised, I’m sure there are some who still don’t know. So here it is… the announcement of the year for me…

In just over a week I start work as a Project Manager with a company here in Norway called MoConDi! Some of you know that I applied for this super cool job, others know I went to two interviews, and a select few heard that I actually didn’t get the job. When I got this news a couple of weeks ago I was really bummed, knowing it would most likely mean that I’d have to leave Chris behind and move back to Australia, given that the job I had here wasn’t worth leaving the public service for.

To be honest, 6-8 months ago I probably would have just given up and gone home. But it’s different now; I’m just starting to feel confident speaking Norwegian, I’ve made fantastic friends and I finally feel like I’m finding a life for myself. With all this in mind, I just didn’t want to go back.

So I started talking to my boss at Mamut to see if there were any available positions that I could apply for; I even went to three interviews for a position as a Writer/Translater. But then suddenly I got a call back from MoConDi to say that they had been thinking of creating another Project Manager position and asked me if I was still interested. So I went in and met the CEO, who was in town from Australia, and he offered me the job right then and there.

This means that I’ll be staying in Norway for the time being. It also means that I finally have a real job pays well and is a huge leap forward in my career, and maybe now we’ll be able to afford to explore some more of Europe with a couple of weekend trips… not to mention I can FINALLY buy myself some new clothes!!

For those who are wondering what the actual job is, I will enlighten you further after I start. In the meantime you can have a look at the MoConDi website.
