How is it almost May?
This year is going so fast… I know I’ve said it before, but you’d think when you’re stuck at home and jobless that the time would drag. On the contrary, the time is just flying by and now it’s almost a year since I was in Australia last.
It’s now less than 8 weeks until Dad and Jo arrive in Oslo, so we’re trying to make plans for our train trip through Denmark and Germany to Juliane and Ueli’s wedding in Switzerland.
I’ve had a few suggestions from friends and other people who have been to Germany, but so far we haven’t come up with much of an itinerary. I think at the moment all we know is that we’re getting an overnight ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen, then spending the day there and catching an overnight train to Hamburg. After that we’re not sure.
Weirdly, it’s incredibly hard to find online information about European rail passes for people who are actually already in Europe. Everything is set up for people who haven’t left for Europe yet. Lame.
Chris has just spent the weekend cleaning out the cabin for the end of the ski season (and punishing his liver by the sounds of it). So I decided to go out and finally spend my birthday money. Unfortunately (as is often the case) I couldn’t find anything I really wanted to buy. There are lots of new summer fashions out now, but nothing that really demanded to be bought. I’ll head out again this week since the weather is going to be beautiful and the walk into town should be less crowded than it was yesterday.
Seriously, it is unbelievable how obsessed Norwegians are with the sun. I had to push my way through the crowds to get to town, and that was in the park! The last time I was at the cabin, it was really too cold to be outside, but in true Norwegian style the boys decided to throw a BBQ… most of the time it was cloudy and overcast, but the second the sun peeped through, all the Norwegians immediately stopped talking, closed their eyes and turned their faces to towards the light. I’m starting to think they’ve mastered photosynthesis or something… it was like watching those speeded up films of plants growing and turning towards the sun. So funny.
Having said all that, the Spring weather thus far seems to be hinting that a warm summer is on its way. We’ve had lots of those sparkly cloud-free days that send the Weegies out in droves. Fingers crossed it just keeps on in the upward temperature swing.
Don’t forget folks, you can leave comments on the posts now, so that I know you’ve visited. There are lots of you who seem to think that by reading my website I somehow know you’re keeping in touch. I don’t. So give it a try… it only takes a second and you don’t have to leave your email address if you don’t want to.
Hope you like the new site. Come back soon!
