About Zoë

I am in my early 30s and live in Oslo, Norway. I am originally from Adelaide, Australia but moved to Norway with my Norwegian boyfriend, Christer, in 2006. I work for a mobile entertainment company as a Project Manager.
I’m a cat-person, but don’t currently have any pets. I had to leave my two cats, Blankie and Gristle, back in Australia in the capable and loving hands of a close family friend. I miss them terribly and have often thought of getting a cat in Norway, but the idea of having any pet in a 55m2 apartment seems cruel… not to mention stinky.
I once entertained the idea of becoming a journalist, but when I realised it would mean writing stuff I would never actually read myself, I abandoned the idea. I’ve always loved writing, however, and these days this website is about the only creative outlet I have… or at least the only one I regularly use!
It was by accident that I discovered my… well passion is probably too strong of a word, but interest in computers and the internet. I was lucky enough to discover this right around the time someone with this interest was needed where I was working, and my interest also became my job. Since then I have pursued several different jobs in technology/communications and believe I have found my niche.
As a project manager I have been able to combine my interest in technology with my innate talents as a pedantic, bossy bitch. Project management is something I believe I was destined for. Recently I found a clipboard full of papers at my Dad’s house detailing my plan of attack for an approaching school holiday. I had listed all the games my sisters and I were going to play, what resources were needed, how long we would spend playing each one and on which days. I also used to write a comprehensive list of everything I got in my show bags and tick them off as I ate them.
I love books and have a burgeoning collection of classic fairy tale books and one day will try to add early and first editions of my favourite authors to it. I also love movies and have an eclectic collection of DVDs that I like to add to regularly.
I’m also very enthusiastic about food and wine. I love cooking for people and am always experimenting with new recipes and improving old favourites. I miss living in wine country, especially since wine here in Norway is subject to ridiculous amounts of tax and is only sold through government-run outlets.

Here are a few things you might not know about Zoë:
She hates calling people on the phone, especially people she doesn’t know. Yes, even the pizza guy.
She has a small mass in her left jaw that at one point doctors suspected was a tumour. As far as anyone knows, it isn’t.
When she was little, she thought there was something wrong with her brain because of a constant tch-tch-tch sound in her head when she was lying down. She later discovered it was the sound of her own pulse.
She gravitates towards anything pink, especially clothes and kitchen appliances.
She has lived with approximately 17 different cats in her lifetime.
She has lived in 17 different houses in her lifetime.
As a child she thought Pizza Hut pizza was too spicy.
Her childhood wish on chicken wishbones, wishing wells, stars and birthday candles was to one day be rich enough to have a house in which she could have a potato chip room. And a room that had a trampoline as a floor.
She could happily squeeze out the contents of a chiko roll and just eat the pastry… as long as no one was looking.
She often feels sorry for inanimate objects.
Despite having always driven manual cars, she would secretly prefer to drive an automatic because she can’t be bothered changing gears around small roundabouts.
She cried at least four times reading the last Harry Potter book, sometimes just out of excitement.
She once ate several cat biscuits.
Her first crush was on the cartoon Peter Pan, the second was on Christopher Reeve as Superman… that one never really went away.
She feels like a hypocrite eating meat when she knows darn well that she could never kill an animal for food, even if she was starving.
She loves the smell of old books.
She thinks the idea of spending thousands on a handbag is ridiculous, but still secretly would love to own a designer handbag.
She hates maggots more than just about any other creature she can think of.
She has a serious phobia of razor blades and sharp, slicy objects.
She often feels more sympathy for the plight of animals than people.
As a child she had nightmares about a man in the kitchen playing a xylophone. The nightmares went away when her mum took the box of toys out from under her bed which contained a frog that made xylophone-like noises when shaken… or bumped by a body turning over in its sleep.
She used to write project plans and proposals for school holiday activities.
Her secret code name for Saturday morning plans, given to her by her brother, was ‘Fuzzbug’.
She likes drinking the salad dressing out of the bottom of the bowl when the salad is finished… she also sometimes licks gravy off her plate in the kitchen where no one can see.
